Virat Kohli has retired from Test cricket, but the veteran will still be playing one-day internationals. He recently announced the decision on Instagram and ended his career of 123 Tests for the Indian team.
The right-handed batter scored over 9000 runs with the help of 30 hundreds in a format he loved the most. However, he could not go beyond and decided to hang up his boots before the five Test matches against England.
Former India player Aakash Chopra has questioned his call of leaving a format in which he was actively involved and continuing with a format that is declining with each passing year. The fifty-over format is the least played, and the players and fans are losing interest in it. It is only the World Cup that manages to attract crowds and the cricketers.
“I am surprised that Virat Kohli decided to quit Test cricket but is still active in ODIs, a format that sees only 7-8 matches in a year. How he will keep himself motivated is the bigger question. He has got two months of IPL to keep himself going but what about the remaining 8 months as there will be hardly one-day internationals in a year,” Aakash Chopra said on Star Sports.
Kohli has scored 14181 runs in 302 ODIs at an average of 57.88, laced with 51 hundreds and 74 fifties.
