Robin Uthappa speaks about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Test retirements

Former Team India head coach Greg Chappell wants the Indian selectors to take tough decisions on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future amid their inconsistent performances. Chappell mentioned that players will not retire themselves as they know that they are being paid a lot of money.

Although Kohli and Rohit are big names, they have been inconsistent for over a year. India lost 0-3 to New Zealand at home, with no contribution from the two-star batters. Even in the team’s defeat in the second Test against Australia, Rohit and Virat were among the flops.

Speaking to reporters in Adelaide, Chappell highlighted that the selectors must know when the time of a player is over. He opined that players will continue to play as long as they want.

“The players know about their form but they want to continue to play and they have every reason and right to extend their careers. That is why you need a strong selection policies to take tough calls. It is not up to them to make those decisions. It is a well paid job and nobody wants to leave and someone else has to make that decision,” he told reporters.

Virat scored a century in the first Test but failed miserably in the second contest.

“You need right people who can have tough conversations with the players. This also depends on the type of relationships they share with players in the dressing room. But with good players, you prefer to give them a few extra games,” he added.
