Joe Root revealed that the previous Test tour of Pakistan in 2022 helped him and Harry Brook to beat in tough conditions on Day 4 of the first Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The scorching heat was unbearable, but Root and Brooks scored 454 runs on the fourth wicket.

Root (262) scored his sixth Test double-hundred, while Brook (317) became the sixth England cricketer to score a triple-hundred. Root lauded the young teammate for scoring briskly and also mentioned that the previous Test matches in Pakistan helped them get used to the heat in the middle.

“We are in a good position right now. Harry played a brilliant knock, and his scoring rate allowed us to move ahead. I have played with Brook for Yorkshire and, more recently, for England.

“We are dealing with the conditions that are alien to us, and we have not batted in such heat before. The last tour of Pakistan helped us the way we batted. We have the opportunity to win the game tomorrow. It was a pleasure to watch Harry Brook bat from the other end. His record is Pakistan, which is phenomenal,” said Root after the Day’s play.

England posted 823/7 and took a lead of 257 runs on the basis of the first innings. Pakistan were 152/6 and are still behind in the second innings.

Gus Atkinson (2/28) and Brydon Carse (2/39) removed Pakistan’s top order, and the hosts are on the verge of losing their sixth consecutive Test at home.
