Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan has questioned the Ollie Pope-led team for their batting performance and field placements on Day 2 of the third Test against the visiting Sri Lanka.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that Joe Root has only one thing left to accomplish in his career. The 49-year-old mentioned that Root needs a big hundred in Australia and backs him to achieve in the Ashes.

The 33-year-old hasn’t hit a hundred despite playing 14 Tests Down Under. He has accumulated 892 runs in his fifties and a best score of 89.

“He needs a big hundred in Australia, and that’s the only thing missing from his career. I feel he will reach the three-figure mark in the Ashes next year in Australia,” Michael Vaughan said on BBC Test Match Special.

Root hit back-to-back hundreds against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Lord’s, taking his tally to 34 tons, one more than Alastair Cook.

“Joe Root is scoring runs without taking any risk”: Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan lauded Joe Root for his risk-free batting style. The 2005 Ashes-winning captain was impressed with Root’s ability to find gaps.

“He has got a solid technique and is not taking risk. He is a great player and is taking singles and doubles easily despite rival captain placing four fielders behind sqaure on the off side.”

“He is rotating strike without any risk. Joe Root reaches 25 in no time.”

England are leading 1-0 in the Test series.
