Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis said that Virat Kohli will have to perform exceptionally well if India are to win their maiden Test series in South Africa. Kallis reckoned that Virat would pass on the knowledge of playing in South Africa to other players of the team.

Team India are looking for their first ever Test series win over the Proteas. The sub-continent team missed a good opportunity in the last two tours. With Kohli at the helm, the visiting nation lost the three-Test series twice by a margin of 1-2.

Speaking to Star Sports, Kallis said that Virat Kohli would have a great series against the Temba Bavuma-led team.

“I am sure of his success in South Africa. He is in good form and have played some remarkable Test innings against the Proteas,” Jacques Kallis said on Star Sports.

“He will want to lead the batting charts over here in South Africa. He is a big player and has a good track record. He will pass his knowledge to other teammates. The young players will learn from him about the conditions and what to expect from the pitches. If India are to win their maiden series, Virat will have to perform with the bat,” he added.

South Africa know how to win matches on home soil. Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee can challenge any batting line-up.

Virat Kohli’s track record in South Africa

The right-handed batter played his first Test match in South Africa in 2013. He has accumulated 719 runs in 7 Tests at an average of 51.36 with 2 hundreds. Kohli’s best score of 153 came at the Centurion in 2018, but India lost the game.
