McCullum's innings gave him a chance to show what he could do on a big stage and turned things around for him

Former New Zealand captain, Brendon McCullum reflected on the transformative moment in his career during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. McCullum, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), made history with a stunning unbeaten century, scoring 158 runs off just 73 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In a recent revelation, the 42-year-old cricketer emphasized the profound impact of that remarkable innings on his life.

“I constantly replay that moment in my mind because it completely transformed my life,” McCullum said during the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leader’s Meet in Bengaluru, where sporting stakeholders from around the globe gathered.

Before that iconic match, McCullum was a relatively unknown cricketer from New Zealand.

“I was just a cricketer for New Zealand, where no one knew what you did, where you are from, or what you are capable of. But that day provided the platform, the forum, and the opportunity to change my life,” he added.

“I’ve been invited to share more leadership stories here. Yet, as a leader, what you seek is the chance to supervise and connect with other leaders who share similar experiences. Constantly striving to grow and evolve, and this week has been fantastic,” McCullum said reflecting on his presence at the Leader’s Meet.
