Former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar has praised Arshdeep Singh for his outstanding performance in the last T20I between India and Australia, specifically highlighting the crucial final over.
In Bengaluru on Sunday, December 3, the Indian team batted first and set a target of 161 runs for Australia. The hosts successfully defended their total, restricting the visitors to 154/8 and securing a six-run victory, concluding the five-match series with a 4-1 lead.
During a review of the game on JioCinema, Nayar commended Arshdeep for his remarkable final over. Particularly, he pointed out the strategic use of a bouncer on the first delivery that left Matthew Wade perplexed.
“He gave away 37 runs in his initial three overs, so the pressure was on, and he wasn’t delivering his yorkers. What stood out to me the most was the short ball he bowled as the first delivery,” Nayar said.
Furthermore, the former India all-rounder noted the impact on Wade’s mindset, as the Australian batsman disputed the legitimacy of the delivery.
“You witnessed Wade becoming quite upset. He believed it was a wide. It tested Wade’s mindset because even from the sidelines, the anticipation was for him to bowl a yorker. Judging from Arshdeep’s body language and thought process, it appeared he was in command,” he added.
In the last over, Australia had to score 10 runs with three wickets left, and Matthew Wade was playing well. Arshdeep bowled two balls that didn’t score, and Shreyas Iyer caught Wade with an important catch at long-on. After that, Arshdeep allowed only one run each from the last three deliveries, ensuring an India victory.
