Nitish Rana has replaced injured Shreyas Iyer as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League 2023. The two-time champions announced their decision through Instagram on March 27.
Kolkata made the decision after BCCI sources revealed that Iyer might go for back surgery due to his recurring issues. The batter will be out for 4-6 months if surgery happens.
KKR released a statement on Monday that they hope Iyer
“We feel fortunate to have Nitish Rana as our next leader. He has been with KKR for years, and we are confident that he will receive support from Head Coach Chandrakant Pandit and other coaching staff members. We will provide him with support during the tournament,” KKR said in a statement.
Rana hasn’t captained at the big stage before.
