ABOUT SHUBMAN GILL


Shubman Gill is one of the best young batsmen in international cricket. The youngster was at his best in the U-19 World Cup in 2018 and since then he has grown by leaps and bounds to make a name for himself in cricket.

DOMESTIC CAREER


Shubman Gill made his List A debut for Punjab in 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 25, 2017. In the same year, he also made his first-class debut against Bengal on November 27 and slammed a half-century in his first game.

In October 2018, he was named in India C’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. Later in December 2018, Gill scored his maiden double century in FC cricket during Punjab’s match against Tamil Nadu in 2018–19 Ranji Trophy season.

U-19 CAREER


Gill was a part of India’s U-19 series win against England U-19 in February 2017.

In December 2017, he was named the vice-captain of the Indian squad for the 2018 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He finished the showpiece event as the leading run-scorer for the Boys in Blue with 372 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 124. He won the Player of the Tournament award for his brilliant performances with the bat.

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET


Gill made his international debut for India during the five-match ODI series against New Zealand in 2019. But Gill could only score 16 runs in the two games he played against the Kane Williamson-led side.

Shubman Gill was named in India’s Test squad for the three-match series against South Africa but he was not included in the playing XI.

He finally made his Test debut on December 26, 2020, during the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia where he helped the Ajinkya Rahane-led side to win the second match of the four-match series.

In the fourth and final Test at the Gabba, Shubman played a scintillating knock of 91 runs to help his side clinch the series by 2-1.

INDIAN PREMIERE LEAGUE


Following his impressive stint in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, Shubman earned a lot of plaudits from several past and present cricketers. Owing to his remarkable performances in the domestic circuit, he was bought by the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2018 IPL auction for Rs. 1.8 crore. Since then, Shubman has been a vital cog of KKR’s batting line-up.

The young opener has played 44 IPL games and has racked up 1008 runs at an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 126.63.

  • Gill was the highest run-getter for Punjab in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season with 728 runs in five games.
