It has not been often seen that the ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah failed to bag a single wicket in a bilateral series. Despite putting his best efforts in the game Bumrah went wicketless in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. With his poor performance in the recently-concluded series, Bumrah even lost his number one position in the latest ODI rankings.
The former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra came forward to support the star player in such a hard time. He believes that India should reduce its dependency on Bumrah as he can’t be at his best in every game. Nehra also stated that the other pacers in the squad need to step out as there is too much pressure on Bumrah.
“You can’t expect Bumrah to deliver in every series. One has to remember he is returning from injury. It’s difficult for anybody to keep performing at the top of his game all the time. Even Virat Kohli has had a quiet series.”
“The Indian team management could be much better while picking the playing XI. The other pacers, besides Bumrah and (Mohammad) Shami, need to know their roles. They have got used to having Bumrah and Shami firing for the last two years. There’s too much pressure on Bumrah. There has been very little consistency in the team selection so far.”
India will next play the two-match Test series against New Zealand starting from February 21.
