Gautam Gambhir is in headlines for all the wrong reasons. Indian cricketer turned politician has been accused by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of being involved in the distribution of “obscene and derogatory” pamphlets against Atishi Marlena. Gambhir is Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) East Delhi candidate.

Gambhir tweeted, “If he [Arvind Kejriwal] can prove that I have anything to do with this pamphlet filth, then I will hang myself in public. Otherwise @ArvindKejriwal should quit politics. Accepted?”

“You can’t tarnish someone’s image without proof. I have never given a negative statement against any opposition candidate in my election campaigning,” he said in a press statement.

Gambhir wrote on Twitter, “I abhor your act of outraging a woman’s modesty @ArvindKejriwal and that too your own colleague. And all this for winning elections? U r filth Mr CM and someone needs ur very own jhaadu to clean ur dirty mind(sic).”

“My Challenge no.2 @ArvindKejriwal @AtishiAAP I declare that if its proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u quit politics?(sic)” he said in another tweet.

The former Indian cricketer is taking on Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress and Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from East Delhi constituency.

Gambhir played significant part in India’s 2011 World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup wins. The Delhi cricketer was also conferred the Padma Shri award post his retirement.
