Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil has thrown his support behind the experienced cricketer Wriddhiman Saha after he was dropped in the recently concluded Test series against the Kiwis. Patil said that the Indian team management is playing with the career of Saha in order to promote young player Rishabh Pant in Whites.

“You are promoting Rishabh Pant, but playing with the career of Wriddhiman Saha. Saha will always be my first choice as a wicketkeeper simply because you need experience and he is more experienced.”

Patil also cited an example of Saha’s match-saving innings in West Indies where he smashed 104 runs against the Caribbean and also weaved a brilliant partnership of 300 runs with Ravichandran Ashwin.

“Saha has also always rescued the team; so why are you taking away his batting confidence? I know what Saha is capable of; I was in the West Indies when he scored that hundred.”

The 35-year-old player was India’s first-choice wicketkeeper in all the five home Test matches against South Africa and Bangladesh last year. At that time, everyone including Indian skipper Virat Kohli and several other members of the team had hailed Saha as the ‘best in the world’. Despite putting his best efforts into the game, Saha was made to sit in the two-match series against New Zealand.
