Team India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri, with the help of star skipper, Virat Kohli has changed the face of the Indian team in the past few years. From thrashing the Aussies in their own backyard in 2018-19 season to thumping the Kiwis in a T20I series earlier this year, India have been quite successful in international cricket.

Former Australia batsman Michael Slater believes Kohli and Shastri have a strong personality and together they work really well. According to Slater, both the men share a good camaraderie which has helped India to put up a great show across formats.

In the latest episode of Cricket Connected show on Star Sports, Slater said, “Ravi and Virat probably challenge each other but there is a lot of respect between them.”

“Both of them have their hearts on their sleeves. I have worked with Ravi in the commentary box, so I’ve got to know him. He is a big personality. There are subtle differences between Kohli and Shastri which allow them to really work well together. But it has been a relationship and I think it has helped Indian cricket’s tempo,” the 50-year-old added.

Ravi Shastri gives Virat Kohli his space – Ashish Nehra

Former India player Ashish Nehra also heaped praise on the Kohli-Shastri duo. He feels the head coach gives proper space to the 31-year-old batsman to express himself which makes their partnership work.

“Ravi Shastri gives Virat Kohli his space, that he needs. Virat Kohli knows the type of person Ravi Shastri is and what can be extracted from him,” Nehra said in the Cricket Connected show.
