A lot has been written about Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. They are two of the finest Indian captains to date. While Ganguly started leading the team in 2000 when Indian cricket was in a mess following the match-fixing scandal, Dhoni won everything which was on offer.
Both Ganguly and Dhoni had different styles but they were successful as skippers. Under Sourav, India won a lot of trophies in the sub-continent and SENA countries.
MS Dhoni, on the other hand, led India to memorable triumphs at 2007 World T20, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. The team also reached the pinnacle of Test cricket under his leadership. Parthiv Patel, the Indian player, recently gave his take on the Ganguly vs Dhoni debate. According to him, Sourav was more impactful as a skipper. Patel stated Ganguly built a team from scratch when India was going through a difficult time.
“While Dhoni has a lot of trophies, Sourav built the team from scratch. Dada led India to famous wins when nobody expected us to win in overseas conditions. Dhoni too was impressive and won everything for the country. I am opinion, Sourav was more impactful than Dhoni,” he said.
When it comes to records, Dhoni edges Ganguly in Test cricket and ODIs as captain of India.
Dhoni led India in 60 Tests, winning 27 in the process. He lost 18 games as well. Sourav led India in 50 Test matches, winning 21 and losing 13. In one-day internationals, Ganguly won 76 out of 146 matches, while Dhoni won 110out of 200 games.
