Sachin Tendulkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of world cricket. With his impeccable batting talent, Tendulkar brought many laurels to his country. He still holds several cricketing records to his name.

However, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, feels that the ‘God of Cricket’ could never master the art of scoring double hundreds and triple hundreds. According to the former India skipper, Sachin Tendulkar always knew how to score a century in international cricket but he wasn’t a ruthless batsman.

In his latest conversation with current women’s team head coach WV Raman, Kapil said, “Sachin had so much talent that I hadn’t seen it in anyone. He knew how to score hundreds but he never became a ruthless batsman. Sachin had everything in cricket. But he didn’t know how to convert hundreds into 200s &300s.”

Kapil reckoned that the kind of talent Sachin had, he should have scored at least five triple centuries in his illustrious career.

“Sachin should have made five triple centuries and another 10 double tons because he could hit fast bowlers and spinners for a boundary every over.”

Sachin’s talent was par excellence – Kapil Dev

The 61-year-old former all-rounder admitted that nobody can match the aura of Sachin Tendulkar in world cricket. Explaining the reason behind his fewer double tons, Kapil said that the Mumbai star had a mindset of making a line and so he started taking singles after scoring a ton.

“Since he was from Mumbai they had a mindset of when you score a hundred make a line and start from zero again. Sachin’s talent was par excellence. But after a scoring a hundred he used to take singles and didn’t become ruthless.”
