Rishabh Pant was heartbroken when he didn’t make it to India’s World Cup squad. It’s a dream for any youngster to play the World Cup, which is the biggest occasion for any cricketer. But, there are chances of him playing in the World Cup if Kedar Jadhav fails to recover in time for ICC’s showpiece event.

All-rounder, Kedar Jadhav picked up a shoulder injury yesterday while fielding during the team’s final league game against Kings XI Punjab.

“He’s getting an x-ray and a scan tomorrow, so we’re hopeful for him. I don’t think we’ll see him again in this tournament for us,” Fleming said. “His attention is turned to the World Cup. He’s in some discomfort but we need to be accurate with our assessment tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious but it didn’t look that good,” he added.

It is likely that he would miss the remainder of the IPL games. And if he doesn’t quite recover in time for the World Cup, it might open the door for Pant. Jadhav has a history of getting injured quite often. Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu were named as back-ups for the World Cup. Rayudu’s form has been poor this season. He has scored 219 runs and is averaging around 20. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has 401 runs at 36.45 with a strike-rate of 157.87.
