A lot has been written about Rishabh Pant’s place in the World Cup squad considering his aggressive batting. The wise men of Indian selection committee decided to go with Dinesh Karthik leaving Pant out in the process. Several former Indian cricketers think selectors have made a mistake by preferring Karthik over Pant. Dilip Vengsarkar has joined the list of Pant’s admirers and he too feels Pant was one player, who deserved to be on the plane to England.

Vengsarkar stated had he been one of the selectors, Pant would have been picked for the upcoming World Cup. He feels Pant can win matches and is in good form at the moment. “If I was a selector today, I would have gone for Rishabh Pant in the World Cup team. Pant is very talented, I was expecting him in the squad,” Vengarkar told Khaleej Times while adding, “he is young and he is an in-form batsman. He should have been in the team. Maybe they were looking for experience so went for Karthik, who has been playing for over ten years,” Vengsarkar further said.

However, he was not surprised with Ambati Rayudu’s omission from the squad.

“Look he was given enough chances, he is 33 and has been inconsistent, so he missed the bus,” the legendary batsman said.
