Digvijay Deshmukh, who played the character of shy little boy Ali in the movie Kai Po Che, has successfully paved his way to the Indian Premier League. The 21-year-old youngster has been picked up by the franchise Mumbai Indians for the upcoming season of IPL. In the auction process for the grand cricket carnival, Digvijay was purchased by the Mumbai outfit for worth Rs 20 Lakh.

Digvijay came into the spotlight after his exceptional performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. He scalped a total of nine wickets on his name in that domestic T20 tournament after which Mumbai Indians decided to opt-in the talented player for a cash-rich league.

The young cricketer celebrated his maiden IPL call with another brilliant performance in the domestic cricket. During his very first match of Ranji Trophy on Friday, Digvijay took six wickets for his side Maharashtra against Jammu & Kashmir. Not only this, he showcased his batting prowess also in that enthralling game as he scored crucial 83 runs off 71 balls.

However, Digvijay never wanted to be an actor, he had a dream to play for India. But when he got selected for Kai Po Che, he grabbed that opportunity as a lot of scenes were related to cricket.

“Yes, I am Digvijay and I acted as Ali in that movie Kai Po Che. But I was never an actor and always a cricketer. Now I am slowly realizing my dream. I had gone to play an U-14 school tournament in Mumbai and one of the assistant director of the film selected me for an audition and then I got the role.”

“I did ‘Kai Po Che’ because a lot of scenes were just about playing cricket.”
