It’s been over a month now since India’s swashbuckling opener Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the 13th edition of IPL in the UAE. But still, there is no clarity over his fitness. Despite being excluded from the limited-overs squads for the ongoing tour of Australia due to injury concerns, Mumbai Indians skipper went on to play the IPL 2020 final against Delhi Capitals in Dubai. His appearance for the Mumbai-based franchise added more confusion over his absence from Team India.

When India captain, Virat Kohli was asked about Rohit’s injury saga before the start of the ODI series against Aaron Finch-led side, he made it clear that there is a “lack of clarity” and he had no idea why Hitman didn’t travel to Australia with the rest of the team.

Sharing his views on the same, former India cricketer, Madan Lal has backed the 32-year-old batsman over his comments on Rohit’s injury and admitted that there is an “absolute” lack of communication between Indian team management and the players at the senior level. Only Rohit and his IPL franchise can answer why he played the final showdown when he was not fully fit.

“Whatever Virat said in his press conference was absolutely correct, I back him for the same because clarity with the captain is a must as the leader runs the team. Both coach and captain should be aware of what is happening with their players,” Lal told ANI.

“Only Rohit or his franchise can clarify why he played for MI when he was just 70 percent fit,” the 69-year-old added.
