Yuvraj Singh is one of India’s best all-rounders in white-ball cricket. He wasn’t just magnificent with the bat and the ball but was also counted among the best fielders.
During his prime, he took stunning catches inside the 30-year circle, and former India fielding coach R Sridhar would have been excited to have high-intensity sessions with the southpaw.
In his book ‘COACHING BEYOND: My Days with the Indian Cricket Team,’ R Sridhar narrated an incident before the T20I series against Australia in 2016. He was surprised when Yuvraj Singh didn’t participate in his fielding drills with Virat Kohli.
“We were training at the Adelaide Oval in January 2016, one day before the three-match T20I series against Australia. I was working with Virat Kohli, and when Yuvraj Singh walked past me, I expected him to join,” he said.
After Virat Kohli’s practice session, Yuvraj Singh came up to Sridhar and told him why he didn’t wanted to train with Kohli.
“Yuvraj Singh came up to me and said. ‘I couldn’t have kept pace with Virat or matched his intensity. It was best that I left you guys to it, and once he is done with it, I can work on my fielding at my own pace.”
