Anjum Chopra was seen hugging India captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the team lost the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final to Australia by 5 runs on Thursday, February 23.
She scored 52 off 34 balls while chasing 173. The captain and Jemimah Rodrigues (43 off 24) added 69 runs for the fourth wicket. However, the dismissal of Rodrigues and Hamanpreet put the Women in Blue on the backfoot.
Following India’s defeat, former captain Chopra was seen consoling Kaur, who was in tears.
The Indian skipper was down with a fever ahead of the important game but recovered on time.
In her conversation with Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC, Chopra opened up about her gesture for Harmanpreet.
“I wanted to give her empathy as it was an emotional moment for both of us. India have reached the semi-finals a lot of times and have lost a lot of times. She was not well but played for the country. Harman played a good knock, and I have seen her battling injuries in the past.”
