The credit for shaping Team India’s bowling arsenal goes to Bharat Arun, who worked tirelessly on all the fast bowlers. He feels India’s newest pace sensation Umran Malik, can break Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar’s record of the fastest delivery in international cricket.
According to him, a fast bowler can increase his speed by 5 km/hr. He pointed out that the Jammu-based bowler can work on his action and perform special drills to raise his pace.
“If you work on your action, your line and length will improve, and speed will also increase. To increase the pace, there are drills that can be helpful, and workload management is also important. Any bowler can increase his pace by 5 kmph,” he told News24sports.
Akhtar bowled the fastest delivery, 161.3kmph against England in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Malik clocked 157kmph in the IPL and 156 kmph in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. Arun said that Umran Malik is a big talent for India and should be persisted with.
“He is an excellent find for Indian cricket as he regularly bowls 150 kmph+. The BCCI should nurture him and make him a good bowler for the team,” he added.
