Karthik admitted that Yadav was overlooked and going unsold in the 2022 IPL mega auction was Umesh's lowest point.

There is a cut-to-throat competition for places in Team India. The place is not guaranteed despite performing exceptionally well in the limited chances. The bowling unit of the India national cricket team is home to match-winning pacers. Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have done well for the Test team.

Dinesh Karthik has opened up on the treatment to Umesh Yadav, who hasn’t played regularly for the sub-continent nation.

He claimed that Umesh was always overlooked in the Indian side. Speaking to Cricbuzz on their ‘Rise of New India’ show, Karthik traced back Umesh Yadav’s journey. Umesh wanted to become a police officer but ended up playing cricket.

“He is a coal miner’s son trying to get into the police force. He made it to the Indian team in 2010 but was not given enough chances and must have felt bad,” said Karthik

“Bumrah and Shami were the first choiced seamers and the competition for the third place was between Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. Ishant was always given preference,” he added.

Karthik admitted that Yadav was overlooked and going unsold in the 2022 IPL mega auction was Umesh’s lowest point.

“He was overlooked and that must have hurt him. He took wickets but was unable to hold on to his place. He was thrown out of the team and the hardest thing was going unsold in the auction,” he concluded.

Umesh is playing in the ongoing four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
