Ellyse Perry praised India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues for their match-winning performances in the World Cup semi-final. Perry pointed out that their composure in high-stakes moments earned them respect even from the Australian players watching from the dressing room.

India achieved a record-breaking run chase in women’s ODIs, setting up a clash with South Africa for the title on Sunday.

Perry also stated that the Australian team would acknowledge the superb efforts of Harmanpreet (89 runs) and Jemimah (127*).

“It’s easy to stand here and throw ideas into the wind,” she said when asked if Australia could have approached things differently.

“Ultimately, all of us in the dressing room would have applauded Harman and Jemi for the way they handled the chase, especially after losing two early wickets in the power play,” she added.

“They just made us pay. All the credit goes to them, rather than anything we did or didn’t do.”

She mentioned that Australia wouldn’t focus on the two dropped catches of Jemimah, at scores of 82 and 106, which gave India a chance to fight back. “For all of us, the goal is always to keep fighting, embrace the challenge, and stay in the game until the very end. As long as we give our best effort, that’s all we can control. After all, it’s sport,” she explained.

“Ultimately, everyone is giving their all to perform. Mistakes are never intentional, but in high-pressure moments with so much at stake, things can go wrong.”
