Ravi Shastri and Zaheer Khan disagrees with Rahul Dravid over overseas participation

After India’s shocking exit to England in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup, the media’s attention turned to Rahul Dravid’s ‘Indian players should play in foreign leagues’ remark.

Without a doubt, English players’ exposure to the Big Bash League played a big role in their triumph. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales were more attuned to Australian conditions than the Indian squad since their board allows its players to play in overseas leagues.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has restricted any active Indian cricketer from participating in any overseas league. A new debate erupted on the internet after Dravid stated that playing in overseas tournaments would be advantageous for Indian cricketers.

Former India captain and head coach Anil Kumble also echoed Dravid’s words and came in favour of allowing the cricketers to participate in global leagues. However, Ravi Shastri and Zaheer Khan think otherwise.

The duo disagreed with Dravid and Kumble’s opinion and said the Indian players play enough cricket domestically and in the IPL.

“There is enough domestic cricket for all the players to get a hang of the system. They are playing in the IPL and should focus on domestic cricket,” opined Shastri.

Zaheer Khan pointed out that the BCCI has laid down a robust domestic structure so that the players are not required to go overseas.

“You have a robust domestic structure, then why go somewhere else? IPL provides enough means to provide good players. India can field three line-ups, and they will compete at any level.”
