MS Dhoni IPL
Dhoni's leadership abilities are unrivaled in cricket.

The Madras High Court has scheduled a hearing for the contempt of court plea filed by former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni against IPS officer Sampath Kumar. The hearing will take place on Thursday, June 15, as the court specifically handles contempt of court cases on Thursdays.

Dhoni lodged the complaint against the IPS officer in response to remarks made by Kumar regarding a defamation suit worth INR 100 crore filed by Dhoni. The suit was related to Dhoni’s alleged involvement in the IPL betting scandal of 2013.

R. Shanmugasundaram, the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, has granted permission for Dhoni to proceed with his case petition. This decision was reached after acknowledging that Kumar’s remarks were an attempt to scandalize the court proceedings.

The IPL betting scandal, which came to light in 2014, resulted in severe consequences for several players from the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, as well as the respective franchises, who were banned from participating in the IPL seasons of 2016 and 2017.
