Balaji believes that Bumrah may have some "hiccups" here and there as he gets back into the swing of things

Former Indian cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji has expressed his anticipation of a return to international cricket for fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, who underwent back surgery, has been on a gradual path to recovery, and Balaji believes that he may encounter occasional difficulties during his comeback journey.

The pacer’s return is particularly crucial as he is set to lead the team in a three-match T20I series against Ireland. This series will serve as a critical assessment of his fitness, influencing the decisions of the selectors regarding his inclusion in the Asia Cup and World Cup squads.

Following his surgery, Bumrah dedicated extensive effort to his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he received guidance from VVS Laxman, the NCA’s chief. Despite this intensive preparation, Balaji opines that Bumrah’s extended absence from the game might pose certain challenges. Balaji emphasizes that Bumrah will need to acclimate himself anew to the cricketing environment and apply significant effort to regain his form.

In an interview with Sportstar, Balaji stated, “Any back surgery will have some hiccups here and there.” However, that is the most you can do. If it has not healed after conservative treatment and you have the option of having surgery and then returning, this is the final stage… So, everything will be fresh (for him), and when he returns, there will be hurdles, but that is what motivates people to do better.”

As Bumrah gears up for his return, the cricketing community will be closely observing his progress and performance in the upcoming series against Ireland.
