Ishan Kishan has taken Virat Kohli’s side after Rohit Sharma’s dig at former RCB captain on the issue of anchor’s role in T20 cricket. Virat had always given importance to anchoring the innings in the shortest format but Rohit recently ruled out the importance and need of an anchor.
Kohli was often at the receiving end for his style of batting in the Indian Premier League 2023. He was accused of wasting too many balls which resulted in RCB’s defeats in crunch matches.
The star batter was not bothered by what was being said about him and continued to play cricket in his style. On the other hand, Rohit has adopted a different approach in recent times. He is going after the bowlers from the first ball as he feels strike-rate is crucial in this form of the game.
Meanwhile, Ishan doesn’t agree with this philosophy. The left-handed batter refused to give his backing to strike rate and average in T20 format.
“Strike rate and average are overrated in T20 Cricket. They don’t take into account the match situation. Playing according to match situation is the most important. If you are chasing 140-150 on a tough pitch, then 200 or 250 strike rate is not needed,” he said.
