David Warner is unhappy and frustrated at how long it has taken Cricket Australia to change their code of conduct regarding captaincy position. “I am not a criminal,” he said.

Warner was suspended for 12 months for his involvement in the controversial ball-tampering scandal on the tour of South Africa in 2018.

Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were also banned by Cricket Australia. The consequences were bad for Warner as he also got a lifetime ban from holding any leadership role in Australia.

CA has now changed its policy and the players can appeal their sanctions. Warner can take up the role of captain or vice-captain if his ban is revoked.

Warner questioned the slow process. “You should be given a chance to appeal at some stage. Banning somebody for life is harsh,” he added.

“They could have done it nine months ago when this issue was brought up.”

Warner was disappointed by the fact that it only took CA four days to ban them.
