There is no official confirmation on the availability of Deepak Chahar for the Indian Premier League 2022.
Chennai Super Kings had bought him for a whopping amount of INR 14 crore in the mega auction, but he was forced to miss India’s limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
Due to his injury, he is expected to miss a couple of weeks of the cash-rich league.
In a discussion for ESPNCricinfo, former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, Aakash Chopra, and Wasim Jaffer discussed the possible replacements for the pacer.
Vettori said Chahar’s absence would be a huge loss for the Chennai Super Kings, and they can replace him with an overseas bowler.
“I believe they can play Adam Mile in his place as he has pace and swing. If they go with Milne and Chris Jordan, Conway will have to sit out, and Robin Uthappa will play. I don’t think they can replace him with any domestic bowler,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wasim Jaffer and Aakash Chopra believe that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to go with the young bowler.
“Tushar Deshpande, Simranjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary are the options available for MS Dhoni,” said Jaffer.
“I will be very interesting to see how Hangargekar goes as he is an unknown commodity. Milne and Dwayne Bravo can take care of the death overs,” said Aakash.
