Gautam Gambhir says India should not play Pakistan in the Asia Cup

Ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir has warned captain KL Rahul. The former player said that a captaincy role in the league would not guarantee India’s captaincy.

Gambhir said that the Super Giants would need Rahul as a batter who leads the team instead of the skipper who bats.

Rahul is the vice-captain of the Indian team across formats and is a contender to replace current skipper Rohit Sharma in future. The 29-year-old has also led India in a couple of games in the absence of Rohit.

Rahul was signed by LSG at a whopping price of INR 17 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

“It is important to have KL Rahul as a batter, who can captain, rather than KL Rahul, the captain, who also bats. I hope I can make you understand the difference,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by India Today.

Gambhir wants the team leader to be “fearless” in his approach.

“I want KL Rahul to take a risk in the tournament. Also, this time, he will be free of wicket-keeper duties, and Quinton de Kock will be our keeper.”
