India were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup semi-final after losing to England by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval. Many questions were raised about the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal from the clash against the Jos Buttler-led team.
He was not a part of the squad in 2021, but Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid benched him for the tournament in the most recent edition.
Veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has revealed the reason behind Chahal’s absence. Karthik told Cricbuzz that Chahal and Harshal Patel were informed at the start of the tournament that they would only play if the conditions suited their bowling style or else they might have to sit out of the World Cup.
“They didn’t say anything as the management had brefied them. However, the two prepared hard as there might be a chance somewhere in the tournamnet. So when there is clarity from the coach and captain, you don’t regret if the chance doesn’t come your way,” he said.
Both players are part of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand.
