The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar trophy is less than two weeks away. The Rohit Sharma-led side need to win at least three matches to join Australia for the World Test Championship final in June 2023.
The first Test will begin on February 9th in Nagpur. Interestingly the visitors have not opted for any warm-up or practice matches. Reacting to the same, former skipper Michael Clarke questioned Australia’s decision, which is when 2022 Test cricketer of the year, Usman Khawaja, came to the scene with his ‘poor quality preparation remarks.’
Khawaja defended CA’s decision and stated that having a preparation match makes no sense since India provides them with a Gabba-like pitch for preparations and turns to spin-friendly tracks for the Actual Tests.
Agreeing with Khawaja’s words, Australian legend Ian Healy also blasted India and accused them of denying the visitors quality preparation pitches.
“We no longer trust India for providing us with the requested facilities. I have faced the same thing during my playing years. I do not like denying touring teams quality preparation before a series. It is disappointing and questions the trust between cricket nations.”
Australia have failed to win a series in India since their triumph in 2004. However, Healy feels that the baggy greens will turn things around this time. Healy also suggested having a preparation game mid-series, which will help the reserve players.
