most expensive 20th overs bowled by Indians
Patel was called up for India after a stellar IPL 2021 but has not replicated the same in international cricket.

The Men in Blue started the T20I series against New Zealand on a bad note as they suffered a 21-run defeat. Chasing 176, the Hardik Pandya-led side lost wickets at regular intervals, and knocks from Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar were not enough to snatch the victory from Kiwis’ jaws. Moreover, the Indian bowlers would have stopped New Zealand within 150 had Arshdeep not conceded 27 runs off the final over. With the feat, Arshdeep registered the record for 3rd most runs given by an Indian in an over in a T20I match. This article will focus on the five most expensive 20th overs bowled by Indians in T20Is.

Harshal Patel

The RCB star has been out of the international scheme of things after a poor 2022. Patel was called up for India after a stellar IPL 2021 but has not replicated the same in international cricket. Patel, who holds the record for giving away the joint-most (37) runs in an over in IPL, once conceded 23 runs for India in the 20th over in 2022, which is the fifth-most runs conceded in the last over of the innings. In 2022, Patel played 22 matches, in which he took 23 wickets but registered an economy of 9.30, one of the highest among pace bowlers last year.

Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed is another bowler who made his debut at a young age but faded with time due to underwhelming performances. The left-arm seamer played just 14 T20Is for India, with 13 wickets at an economy of 8.9. Khaleel’s worst bowling day came in 2018 when he conceded 23 runs in the 20th over.

Deepak Chahar

The CSK star has missed most of 2022 with injuries, but he did not have a good outing whenever he was fit to play. Chahar, who missed the 2022 IPL, looked like a pale shadow of himself while playing for India. During the 3rd and final T20I of the South Africa series, which India won, Chahar conceded 24 runs in the last over, following which he even lost his temper on teammate Mohammed Siraj. Chahar got rightly animated on the fifth call since Siraj managed to catch Miller’s lofted shot, but his one foot touched the boundary rope, which resulted in a six. In 2022, Chahar featured in just seven games, took six wickets, and leaked runs at an economy of 8.33.

Suresh Raina

The only batsman on the list is Suresh Raina. The Chinna Thala once conceded 26 runs against South Africa in the last over in 2012, which was the record for most runs conceded by an Indian in the 20th over for over 11 years. Mr. IPL has played 78 matches and taken 13 wickets.

Arshdeep Singh

The 23-year-old youngster conceded 27 runs against New Zealand in the final over of the 1st T20I at Ranchi on January 27, which is the record for the most runs conceded in the final over of the match by an Indian. Further, Arshdeep also registered an embarrassing record for conceding the 3rd most runs in an over by an Indian in T20Is. The record is held by Shivam Dubey, who leaked 34 runs against New Zealand. The left-arm seamer started the final over with a no ball which went for a six, and the next two deliveries also went for six, resulting in 19 runs from three balls, which is also a record in its own.
