The start of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has been postponed to April 15 due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak that is beginning to have a major impact on India. The tournament was earlier supposed to kick-off on March 29 with a contest between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. However, even if the event had started on the scheduled date, it would have been played behind closed doors and without foreign players till April 15 due to the Health Ministry advisory and visa restrictions.

As the wait for IPL 2020 gets longer, here’s a look at some impressive records fans must know about.

Most Runs – 5,412 (Virat Kohli)

India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has scored the most runs in the IPL. In 177 matches, he has 5,412 runs to his name at an average of 37.84 and a strike rate of 131.61 with five hundreds and 36 fifties.

Most Sixes – 326 (Chris Gayle)

It is no secret that West Indian legend Chris Gayle loves hitting sixes. The left-hander, who currently represents Kings XI Punjab, and earlier turned out for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, has smashed 326 sixes in 125 matches, having faced 2,969 balls.

Highest Individual Score – 175 (Chris Gayle)

The maverick West Indian also has to his name the record for the highest individual score in the IPL. Gayle blasted an unbeaten 175 from 66 balls playing for RCB against Pune Warriors in 2013. Gayle hit 17 sixes and 13 fours as RCB won the game by a whopping 130 runs.

Best Strike Rate – 186.41 (Andre Russell)

Another West Indian, all-rounder Andre Russell has the best strike rate in the tournament. In 64 games, Russell, who presently represents KKR, has scored 1,400 runs at a fantastic strike rate of 186.41.

Most Centuries – 6 (Chris Gayle)

Another record in Gayle’s name. He has hit the most number of hundreds. In 125 games, he has registered six centuries to go with his 28 fifties.

Most Fifties – 44 (David Warner)

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner has scored the most number of half-centuries in the IPL. In 126 games, Warner has 44 fifties to his name. He has scored 4,706 runs at a strike rate of 142.39.

Most Fours – 524 (Shikhar Dhawan)

Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan has hit the most fours in the IPL. In 159 matches, he has 524 fours to his name apart from 96 sixes.

Fastest Century – 30 balls (Chris Gayle)

Gayle has blasted the fastest hundred in the IPL. He reached three figures off 30 balls during his knock of 175 not out against Pune.

Most Wickets – 170 (Lasith Malinga)

Mumbai Indians’ veteran pacer Lasith Malinga has taken the most wickets in the tournament. In 122 matches, he has 170 scalps to his name at an average of 19.80 and a strike rate of 16.62. Malinga’s economy rate in the tournament is 7.14.

Best Bowling Figures – 6 for 12 (Alzarri Joseph)

West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph made a sensational debut for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019. Joseph’s 6 for 12 destroyed SRH as they were rolled over for 96.

Most Hat-tricks – 3 (Amit Mishra)

Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has taken three hat-tricks in the IPL. The first one came playing for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in 2008, the second for Chargers against Kings XI Punjab in 2011, and the third for SRH vs Pune Warriors in 2013.

Most Four-Wicket Hauls – 6 (Sunil Narine)

KKR’s mystery spinner Sunil Narine has the most four-wicket hauls in the IPL. 110 games, he has picked up six four-fers. Malinga also has six four-wicket hauls to his name. But, he has played 122 matches for the same.

Most Dot Balls Bowled – 1,249 (Harbhajan Singh)

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was earlier part of Mumbai Indians and now represents Chennai Super Kings, owns the record for most dot balls in the IPL. In 160 matches, Harbhajan has bowled 1,249 dot balls. The Turbanator has picked up 150 wickets at a strike rate of 22.49.

Best Economy Rate – 6.55 (Rashid Khan)

SRH spinner Rashid Khan has the best economy rate. Having played 46 matches, he has picked up 55 wickets while maintaining an excellent economy rate of 6.55.

Most maidens -14 (Praveen Kumar)

Former Gujarat Lions and India pacer Praveen Kumar has bowled most maidens in the IPL. After 119 matches, he finished with a credible 14 maidens.
