Shimron Hetmyer portrayed glimpses of his destructive self during his 24-ball 45 knock against Rajasthan Royals. He smashed five mammoth sixes, one of them was a perfectly-executed pull shot off Andrew Tye.

Speaking about the pull shot, Hetmyer revealed that head coach, Ricky Ponting, has been mentoring him to perfect the art of playing a ‘peerless’ pull-shot.

Delhi Capitals are enjoying a dream stint in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with five wins from their first six games, and are currently leading the points table.

“It’s been fun to be around him (Ricky Ponting). He is a very good guy. He is right now working on my pull shot as he has observed that in the last few games, people have been bowling short deliveries to me,” Hetmyer said.

“So far he is working on my pulling and he has done one hell of a job on mentoring me. He is teaching me the art of being a better finisher. I am getting there gradually.”

The former U-19 World Cup-winning captain, Hetmyer, believes that he hasn’t played too many big shots in his short IPL career, so far.

Still just 23, The Guyana-born southpaw, Hetmyer, has already played 86 international games across three formats (16 Tests, 45 ODIs, 25 T20Is). Looking back, Hetmyer feels amazed at the speed at which his transition has happened.

Hetmyer and Delhi Capitals will now take on defending champions Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
