In a sudden turn of events, Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain, Dinesh Karthik decided to step down from his position and handed over the responsibility to England limited-overs skipper, Eoin Morgan for the remaining season of IPL in UAE.
Being a captain, Karthik has had a mixed season in the ongoing tournament and even faced the backlash on social media platforms for his forgetful outings with the bat. The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has managed to score 108 runs in seven games so far. Morgan, on the other hand, notched up 175 runs at an average of 35.
Though, it seems like Karthik’s latest decision didn’t go well with the former KKR captain, Gautam Gambhir, who led the franchise to two glorious titles in the cash-rich league.
A few moments later after the franchise announced the news of a change in captaincy, Gambhir posted a cryptic message on his official Twitter handle.
He wrote, “It takes years to build a legacy but a minute to destroy it”.
However, the 39-year-old veteran batsman didn’t mention anybody’s name in his tweet or said it in response to any other post.
“We are fortunate to have leaders such as DK, who has always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR while confirming the news.
