Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir has been bestowed with Padma Shri by Government of India. Reacting to the news of being awarded India’s fourth highest civilian award, Gambhir stated its an honour for him.
“It’s an honour I accept with gratitude. But it’s an honour which also comes with responsibility. I’m living for the day when Gautam Gambhir the human being beats Gautam Gambhir the cricketer. That will be my day, my award to myself. #PadmaAwards2019,” he wrote on Twitter.
He recently bid adieu to cricket and played his last game in Ranji Trophy against Andhra Pradesh at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
Gautam, who played important knocks in the final of T20 World Cup 2007 and World Cup 2011, went on to represent India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and T20Is.
