Former RCB coach Ray Jennings has criticized skipper Virat Kohli for backing wrong players, during his initial years of captaincy with the IPL franchise.

Virat, as a captain, has achieved a lot with Team India. Under Kohli, India has become one of the most exciting teams to watch in recent times.

However, when it comes to his captaincy with RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 31-year-old has been under the radar of fans and pundits.

Despite making it to the finals of the IPL three times, RCB is yet to win a title. As a reason, Virat has endured a lot of criticism, since taking over the reins in 2011.

Jennings, who worked with RCB from 2008-2013, says Virat backed the wrong players and had disagreements with him during squad selections, which have costed the team.

Since their last appearance in a final, back in 2016, RCB has failed to even qualify for the playoffs for three straight campaigns. RCB has lost finals (2009, 2011) under Jennings.

The South African pointed out how the IPL is different from international cricket, as there is little time for the players to adapt.

RCB’s IPL campaign gets underway on Monday, September 21 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
