Kagiso Rabada claimed two scalps during the powerplay against PBKS. This was the first time Rabada claimed such a feat.

Delhi Capitals thumped Punjab Kings by seven wickets in match number 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Sunday. PBKS, who didn’t have their skipper KL Rahul, posted a below-par 166/6 in 20 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal dazzled with an unbeaten 99 for PBKS.

The Kings managed started poorly and scored just 39 in the powerplay overs, losing two wickets. Mayank and Dawid Malan (26) posted a decent 50-plus stand for the third wicket. However, post that DC kept claiming crucial wickets at regular intervals.

However, Mayank stepped up towards the end and helped his side finish on 166/6. He played some gorgeous shots. For DC, pacer Kagiso Rabada (3/36) did a sound job.

Meanwhile, the DC openers added 63 runs. Prithvi Shaw scored a 22-ball 39 as DC bossed the powerplay. From there on, Shikhar Dhawan batted on and made sure he stayed till the end. His unbeaten 69 helped DC get past PBKS.

Mayank (99*) went on to register eight fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 170.69. He brought up his ninth fifty in the IPL. The Indian has now gone past the 250-run mark in IPL 2021. He became the second batsman from PBKS to achieve this mark. Mayank also hit his second fifty this season and a third fifty against DC. His 99* is now the highest score for him against the Capitals. Mayank also surpassed 300 runs against DC (334).

Mayank’s 99* is now the third time a batsman has managed this score in the IPL. Suresh Raina (versus SRH) in IPL 2013 and Chris Gayle (versus RCB) in 2019 are the two other players.

Dhawan hits 44th IPL fifty

DC stalwart Shikhar Dhawan continued his fine form with the bat. He now has 44 IPL fifties under his belt. Dhawan also hit his third IPL fifty this season and slammed his seventh fifty against Punjab. Interestingly, he is just the second batsman to surpass 850 runs against Punjab (894).

Dhawan reclaims the Orange Cap

Left-handed batsman Dhawan has reclaimed the Orange Cap from KL Rahul. He became the first player this season to get past 350 runs (380). Dhawan also is the first player to hit 40-plus fours in IPL 2021 (43). He hit six fours in the match against PBKS.

Chris Gayle (13) has now gone past 500 runs against Delhi in the IPL. The Universe Boss has now scored 503 runs against DC. He became the 12th batter to achieve this tally against Delhi. Kagiso Rabada claimed two scalps during the powerplay against PBKS. This was the first time Rabada claimed such a feat. Dhawan now has the most fifty-plus scores in run-chases in the IPL (19). He steered clear of Gautam Gambhir (18).

Feats for DC youngster Prithvi Shaw

DC batsman Shaw has the third-best strike rate in IPL 2021 (166.48). Interestingly, his strike rate in the powerplay overs reads as 187.40. He became just the fourth batsman to hit 300-plus runs this season, besides being the second player from DC to achieve this mark. Shaw, who has 1,134 IPL runs, has gone past Matthew Hayden’s tally of 1,107.

Delhi, who claimed their fifth win of the season, have completed the double over PBKS in IPL 2021. They had earlier won the previous encounter by six wickets. In 28 encounters between the two sides, DC clinched their 13th victory. Meanwhile, DC registered the third-highest score in the powerplay this season (63/0). Interestingly, they have amassed four of the top five highest scores in the powerplay in IPL 2021.
