Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Delhi Capitals (DC) in match 29 of IPL 2021 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. DC have done well in IPL 2021 so far and are second in the points table, with five wins from seven games. They defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets in their last match. PBKS are at number five in the points table with three wins and four losses. In their last match, they upset Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 34 runs, which would have definitely boosted their confidence. As PBKS and DC face each other today, here are three-player battles to keep an eye on.
1. KL Rahul vs Avesh Khan
PBKS skipper KL Rahul has been in amazing form for the franchise yet again. Against RCB, he led the way with a cracking 91 not out in a significant win. Even as the team experienced a middle-order tumble, Rahul held things together for Punjab. He opened up towards the end with some fantastic strokes to pump up his strike rate. The knock went a long way in PBKS registering the crucial win over RCB. PBKS will be pleased with their captain’s effort so far and will want him to continue his great run.
We never thought we would say this, but DC pacer Avesh Khan has been the best bowler on display for the franchise. The expected performer, Kagiso Rabada, has been struggling. Somehow, Rabada and new DC skipper Rishabh Pant haven’t been able to work well together. Khan though has been brilliant. He has picked up wickets many at crucial junctures for the team and has been one of the reasons DC have fared so well this season. He should be confident of standing up to the prolific Rahul as well.
2. Prithvi Shaw vs Mohammed Shami
Prithvi Shaw played a sensational knock of 82 in only 41 balls against KKR. DC did not have a huge total to chase. Still, the manner in which Shaw came out and went all guns blazing proved the kind of form and mood he was in. DC would be really pleased with Shaw’s batting efforts this season. He has clearly been motivated by the failures with the bat Down Under and has been on a mission to prove himself. DC wouldn’t mind one bit.
PBKS are heavily dependent only Mohammed Shami to get the early wickets for the franchise and then come back at the death and do the job for the team. Against RCB, he kept things quiet even though he did not get a wicket in his first spell. With the batting raising their game, PBKS would expect Shami to lift himself as well. He would, himself, want to be at his best against a rampant Shaw.
3. Shimron Hetmyer vs Ravi Bishnoi
Shimron Hetmyer came in and played a cracking knock against RCB when all hope seemed lost. Even as they ended up losing the match by a whisker, Hetmyer proved why he is so highly rated. He came up with some sizzling shots to keep the pressure up on RCB and almost pulled them over the line. DC will want more of the same from Hetmyer against PBKS.
PBKS leggie Ravi Bishnoi has been highly impressive in the games that he has featured in so far. He has not been afraid to toss the ball up and invite the batsmen to attack him. Bishnoi has some genuine match-winning skills with the ball and has foxed a number of big names in his short but impressive IPL career so far. Can he get the better of Hetmyer if the two youngsters come face-to-face?
