Aakash Chopra has said that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) tried to get good middle-order batters in the IPL 2023 auction but couldn’t due to their limited purse.
The Bangalore-based franchise had a purse of INR 8.75 crore and bought seven players, including two overseas, to assemble a 25-member team.
“They wanted big players and targeted Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Sam Curran, Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, and Manish Pandey. You won’t even get their shadows with that money,” he said.
The former India opener added that Faf du Plessis’ side had a limited budget because they already had a good squad.
“They are expensive players, wo how you will get them? They have a good team, and there was no scope for too many changes. Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Finn Allen, and Anuj Rawat are good players,” he added.
Chopra highlighted that RCB have most areas covered.
“Rajat Patidar and Suyash Prabhudessai are good middle-order batters. They have two wicketkeepers in the form of Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat. Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mahipal Lomror, Wanindu Hasaranga, Will Jacks, Manoj Bhandage, and Sonu Yadav can contribute as all-rounders.”
