India beat Sri Lanka by ten wickets in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, September 17 to lift their eighth title. It was a perfect display with the bat and the ball for the Rohit Sharma-led side, as they cleaned up Sri Lanka for just 50 runs, which is the lowest score in the history of the Asia Cup.
After the win, several cricket pundits across countries termed India as favourites going into the World Cup. Meanwhile, 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev praised Men in Blue but remarked that it is too early to term them as favourites.

Speaking with ANI, Dev remarked, “What a fantastic game of cricket. As a cricketer, I would like to see a much close game, but as a player, I feel ’30 pe out karo, aake jeeto.”
“I think if we come in top 4, that is more important. You can’t say, right now, we are favourites. Our team is very good. We have to work very hard. I know about my team. I don’t know about other teams…Indian team is ready to play and win the Championship.”
India will now face Australia for a three-match ODI series before the ICC World Cup 2023.
