Deepak Hooda batting slot

Deepak Hooda has done well in limited chances in T20Is. However, there is an issue with his batting order as the player likes to bat in the top order, but the places are already occupied by big players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

In the T20I series against New Zealand, Hooda was given the role of batting at No.6 despite the absence of star players. The management doesn’t have a place for him in the top three; if he wants to cement his place, he will have to perform well in the lower order.

He was asked about his preferred batting slot. Hooda said he would settle for No.5 as a ‘legend’ (Virat Kohli) bats at No.3 for India. “One of the legends of the game bats at No.3, so I can’t get that spot. I have to be practical and would settle for the No.5 spot. I am a utility player and need to play according to the situation,” said Hooda.

Reacting to Hooda’s statements, former India cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Ajit Agarkar said the all-rounder was afraid to say that he wanted to bat at No.3.

“Woh kehna chahta the main Kohli, Rahul ko replace karunga par dar gaya. However, he shouldn’t get afraid and say whatever he wants. This would help him in future,” said Kaif.

“He wanted to say about the No.3 spot but stopped himself,” said Agarkar.
