South Africa ended their group-stage campaign with a win over Afghanistan. The Proteas were challenged by the sub-continent team as the game went to the death overs, with Temba Bavuma’s side prevailing by 5 wickets.

Rassie van der Dussen was named the Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 76 off 95 balls, with the help of 6 fours and 1 six. Rassie had to curb his attacking style to guide the team to a victory ahead of the semi-final clash against Australia on November 16.

“We wanted to test ourselves in tough situation before our semi-final match with Australia. It was not easy out there as Afghanistan had a quality bowling line-up with four spinners in the team. It was not easy to score runs against them. We are not good chasers so the idea was to get some practice,” he said.

The Proteas lost two games while chasing against the Netherlands and India in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan scored 244 in 50 overs, with Azmatullah Omarzai accumulating 97. Gerald Coetzee took 4 wickets for the side.
