The third season of the Legends League Cricket is underway in Doha, Qatar, as Asia Lions took on India Maharajas in the tournament opener on March 10.
The fans were hyped for the game because they got to see Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi in the same frame. Afridi, who is captaining Asia Lions, greeted Gambhir, skipper of India Maharajas, at the toss, which sparked a meme fest on the internet, as fans were delighted to see old rivals together.
Gambhir and Afridi are known for their heated exchanges in the past. The most famous one was during the ODI series in 2007 when the duo hurled abuses at each other. Since then, they have not talked in high spirits about each other, appearing in different interviews in their respective countries. In the first game, Asia Lions emerged as the better team as batting first the Afridi-led side put 165/5 on the board, courtesy of 73 run innings from former Pakistani skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. In reply, Gambhir scored a fifty, but it was not enough for the Maharajas to win the match, as they fell short of the target by nine runs.
