Mumbai Indians registered their season’s biggest win after they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the eliminator.
MI, batting first, put 182 runs on the board. In reply, they restricted LSG to 101 runs courtesy of a five-wicket haul by Akash Madhwal. The 29-year-old took over the internet after his performance and broke a plethora of records after his 5/5 against Lucknow.
Akash registered the joint-best figures by an Indian in the history of IPL and also became the first player to take a five-wicket haul in the knockout phase in the history of IPL.
Several experts reacted to the win and praised the right arm quick, but the most special one came from legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, after the win, Sachin spoke to the players in the dressing room, where he spoke highly of Madhwal.
“I thought the dot balls by Akash and Rohit’s fielding was one of the reasons Badoni played that shot (in the 10th over against Madhwal), and to me, that was the turning point of the game. Yes, Krunal’s wicket was important, but those two wickets in the over, you forced him to play that shot. Few dot shots, and he went across the line. To me, that was the turning point. Everyone chipped in. (turning towards Akash Madhwal) Incredible, Madhwal. Continue the good work.” Here is the video of the speech.
Mumbai Indians will play Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 26 for Qualifier 2.
