The sixth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. The defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies took on Nellai Royal Kings in the opener. The match was tied, leading to a Super Over.
The Royal Kings defeated the Super Gillies. The highlight of the match was the ugly behaviour of the competition’s all-time leading run-scorer, N Jagadeesan.
The Super Gillies star was ‘Mankaded’ by Baba Aparajith in the 4th over of the second innings. Jagadeesan started his innings beautifully and was frustrated to get out in that manner. However, while walking back to the dugout, he made an obscene middle-finger gesture towards Baba Aparajith that left the internet furious.
Fans trolled Jagadeesan for his behaviour.
‘Mankading’ has never been taken fairly by the batters. They have always deemed it to be against the spirit of the game, despite the majority of the cricket rules favouring the batsman. On the contrary, being in the crease at the time of the delivery is a rule that most batters forget.
Meanwhile, Jagadeesan is the latest entrant to the list of batters dismissed by ‘mankading’.
