Sri Lanka have dealt a heavy blow, as their star player Wanindu Hasaranga is doubtful for the Asia Cup 2023. The 26-year-old, who recently bagged all the awards at the recently concluded Lanka Premier League, has suffered a hamstring injury and is likely to be ruled out of the continental cup.
Asia Cup 2023 begins on August 30, with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh in their first game on August 31. Meanwhile, Hasaranga, who scored 279 runs and took 19 wickets in the LPL, would have to undergo a fitness test in the coming days, following which a call would be taken on his availability. The 26-year-old was instrumental for the Island in last year’s Asia Cup, and his contribution helped Sri Lanka win the prestigious six-team tournament.
