Former India opener Aakash Chopra has heaped massive praise on Joe Root after the Englishman scored 176 runs in the first innings and helped England beat New Zealand in the second Test.

This was Root’s 10th Test century since the beginning of 2021, a duration in which Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson have scored just one between them. Root has scored 27 Test tons in his career so far.

Chopra highlighted that when Kohli hit his 27th ton, Root had been on a total of 17. He also elaborated on how Root has become the best Test batter in the last two years.

“Joe Root is the best batter and there is no one even close to him in Test cricket. He has scored runs in England, Sri Lanka and other countries. Root is unbreakable and his rivals are down.”

Root crossed the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket during the opening Test against New Zealand.
